FilmL.A. President Moderates “Navigating Filmmaking In Los Angeles” Panel at Busby’s East

At a time when California trails Louisiana, Canada and the United Kingdom in total live-action feature projects, total related film jobs and total related production spending, it’s wonderful to recognize filmmakers dedicated to keeping their projects in the Greater Los Angeles region.  On May 15, industry professionals gathered at Busby’s East for a “Navigating Filmmaking in LA” panel and networking event.  The event was hosted by FilmL.A., NewFilmmakers Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Post Production Group.  FilmL.A. President Paul Audley served as moderator for the panel.

The event provided filmmakers the opportunity to network and become better informed about the benefits of filming in Los Angeles.  The evening’s discussion touched on the creative process, film funding sources, the permitting process, and how location affects budget. The group also discussed city-owned locations that are available for filming free of charge, tools utilized in orchestrating production logistics, and the post process and how it relates to the on-set experience.

The evening’s panelists included:

  • Larry Laboe, Executive Director of NewFilmmakers Los Angeles
  • Jeff Grace, Actor/Producer/Writer
  • Miranda Bailey, Producer/Actress/Director
  • Tjardus Greidanus, Writer/Director/Editor/ Cinematographer

In addition to the night’s panel presentation, event hosts presented Blumhouse Productions with an Award of Recognition for working to keep production in Los Angeles.  Blumhouse officials revealed that they shoot 95 percent of their content in Los Angeles. Jennifer Brill accepted on Blumhouse’s behalf.

“We need to keep our industry in L.A. working and empowered and Blumhouse has done an excellent job in that arena,” added Larry Laboe of NewFilmmakers.

Our thanks go out to our co-hosts and event sponsors for helping to make it a successful event.
