On May 28, the Hollywood Chamber Community Foundation named FilmL.A. one of this year’s “Heroes of Hollywood.” Since 1993, the Heroes of Hollywood Awards are bestowed annually on individuals and businesses making a difference within the Hollywood community. FilmL.A. was honored this year because of our ongoing work to attract and retain film production in Los Angeles, for our entertainment industry research, and for our efforts to secure the passage of AB1839 (Gatto/Bocanegra), which expanded the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program. Paul Audley accepted the award on behalf of FilmL.A., our 92-person staff and our 30-member board.

“Our third honoree does such a very good job of keeping us informed… sharing the positive and sometimes not-so-positive news about the entertainment capital of the world,” said awards emcee and news broadcaster Robert Kovacik of NBC4. Kovacik added that FilmL.A. has been, “a major force in convincing the State of California to raise its film tax incentives.”

“We consider it an absolute privilege to be working in a community that supports the arts and creativity and to be part of what makes it easy to film in L.A.,” Paul Audley noted in his acceptance speech. “We recognize that our job is to balance the needs of a community and to make that community sustainable for on-location film work. We’re grateful to keep making Hollywood the center of film and television production. On behalf of our 92 employees, thank you so much for this honor.”

This year’s Heroes of Hollywood Awards were held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex on Vine Street. Other 2015 honorees included Mary Pickford Award recipient Diane Ladd, Distinguished Service in Memory of Johnny Grant Award recipient Councilmember Tom LaBonge, hero Christopher Barton of Hudson Pacific Properties, hero Jane Lopez of Trailer Park, and hero St. Anne’s, a social services organization offering aid to vulnerable children, youth and families.
