Shout out to L.A. landmarks

Shout out to L.A. landmarks

from: Richard Verrier, LA Times –

The Orpheum Theatre, the Bradbury Building and Hancock Park are among the Los Angeles locations that play a starring role in “The Artist,” French director Michel Hazanavicius’ hommage to the silent film era.

The recently released black-and-white movie about the lives of silent film star George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) and chorus girl Peppy Miller (Bernice Bejo) pays tribute not only to Hollywood of the 1920s and 1930s, but also to classic locations throughout Los Angeles, including Mary Pickford’s residence in Hancock Park’s gated Fremont Place.

For more on how Hazanavicius relied on historic buildings and places throughout L.A., see Rebecca Keegan’s report in Thursday’s Calendar section.
